The chill of a true late-October afternoon settled across New Ulm, Minnesota, as the Crown Polars took the field against the Martin Luther Knights. The fall winds swept down from the north, but they couldn't cool off a Polars team riding high from an impressive weekend performance. With a chip on their shoulder and momentum on their side, Crown struck first. In the first half, superb sophomore midfielder Layla Kerr, netting her fourth goal of the year to give the Polars a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. For much of the match, everything seemed to be going Crown's way. But in the 83rd minute, Martin Luther's Rachel Schoeneck capitalized on a late opportunity, leveling the score. The match would end in a 1-1 draw, earning Crown a point in the standings.
The women's soccer team now heads into a bye weekend for some much-needed rest. They'll return to action next Wednesday against the University of Northwestern.
