MORRIS, Minn.- The Crown College Women's Soccer team opened their conference slate with a dramatic win over Northwestern this past Saturday. After two days of rest, the Polars were back on the pitch on Tuesday. Crown traveled to Minnesota-Morris and played the Cougars to a 2-2 draw. The Polars moved to 1-0-1 in UMAC play in the young 2024 season.
The Polars scored late on Saturday to secure the win and they rode that momentum into the early stages of Tuesday's road contest.
Ashley Pierce scored in the third minute of the contest to give the Polars an early lead on the road.
Lexi Shreve was credited with the assist.
The game remained scoreless throughout the remaining 42 minutes of the first half as the visitors took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break. If fans were late getting back into their seats after heading to the concessions stand at halftime; they missed a lot in the early stages of the second half. The two teams combined to score three goals in the first eight minutes of the final half.
In the second half, it was the Cougars who scored right out of the gate. Morris picked up a goal 38 seconds into the frame to tie the game at one goal apiece.
Nearly five minutes later, Pierce untied the game with her second goal of the afternoon. Once again Shreve picked up the assist as the Polars jumped back ahead 2-1.
Emma Domka was also credited with an assist on the play.
The UMAC contest continued to resemble a ping pong match as the momentum immediately swung nearly three minutes later. The Cougars punched in a goal and tied the game 2-2. The defenses would blank the offenses the rest of the way and the game ended in a draw.
The Polars outshot the Cougars 24-11 in the contest and had 12 shots on goal compared to the Cougars' five.
Ester Roper had three saves in net for Crown.
UMAC play continues to roll on as Crown will be at home this upcoming weekend against Martin Luther. The Polars will host the Knights at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 28th.
