Winona, MN — Crown volleyball wrapped up play at the Saint Mary's Tournament on Saturday by splitting a pair of matches against Luther College and the College of St. Scholastica.
In the early match, the Polars outlasted Luther in a five-set thriller. Crown opened with a 25-21 win in the first set before dropping the next two tightly contested sets. The Polars responded in dominant fashion in the fourth, rolling to a 25-8 victory to force a decisive fifth set. Crown carried that momentum through the finish, sealing the match with a 15-10 win.
The freshman duo of Lauren Burnett and Lily Duquaine led the offensive effort against Luther, combining for 32 kills, while Faith Sperl added 21 assists.
Crown carried that energy into its late-morning match up with St. Scholastica. The opening two sets were closely contested, but both went in favor of the Saints. The Polars answered by taking the third set to extend the match before St. Scholastica claimed the fourth and final set.
Once again, Burnett and Duquaine paced the attack, combining for 31 kills in the match. Sperl finished with 23 assists, while Kaitlyn Drost anchored the back row with 20 digs.
Crown will return home for its home opener next Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Macalester College.
