Waconia, Minn. - The women's tennis team began conference play with a win over the University of Minnesota Morris, earning a 4-2 victory behind a doubles sweep.
The Polars dominated in doubles as Xeng Her and Maya Wuotila opened with a 6-4 win, followed by a 7-5 victory from Amy Eckstrom and Reagan Cocking. The No. 3 doubles match went unfinished after the point was decided.
Eckstrom carried the momentum into singles with a 6-3, 6-0 win to give the Polars a 2-0 lead. The Cougars responded by winning the next two singles matches to even the score at 2-2. Reagan Cocking delivered a key win at No. 4 singles, taking the tiebreaker 7-1 to regain the lead. Elyse Steffen sealed the 4-2 team victory with a 6-1, 6-3 win.
The Polars earn their first win of the season and move to 1-5 overall. They will look to build on their 1-0 conference record when they return to action next Friday at home against Bethany Lutheran.
