Owatonna, Minn. – The Polars men's tennis team kicked off its spring schedule on Saturday with two dual matches in Owatonna, Minnesota. They split on the day, defeating Ripon College 5–2 before falling in a close contest to Martin Luther, 4–3.
In the first match, the Polars swept all three doubles matches to secure the doubles point, highlighted by 6–2 victories from Ean Clarke and David Comings, and Austin Droeger and Brevin Butler, along with an impressive 6–1 win by Matt Comings and Gavin Leuthold. Clarke, Matt Comings, Butler, and Droeger each added singles match victories to clinch the 5–2 team win and open the spring campaign on a strong note.
Clarke and David Comings opened the second dual with a doubles win, but the Knights claimed the remaining two doubles matches to secure the doubles point. David Comings, Clarke, and Matt Comings earned singles victories, but those three points were not enough to overcome the Knights as the Polars fell 4–3.
The Polars begin the spring season 1–1 and hold an overall record of 1–2, including their fall competition. Crown returns to action next week, hosting Simpson College on Thursday before traveling to Saint Mary's (Minn.) on Friday.
