St. Paul, Minn. – The women's basketball team traveled to the University of Northwestern on Saturday afternoon and came up short in a close 62–56 loss.
A balanced offensive attack in the first quarter saw the Polars take an 18–17 lead. Morgan Bednarek, Sydney Cotten, Jacee Glasgow, and Avery Youngblood each contributed to the scoring effort. The second quarter remained just as competitive, with the teams trading the lead throughout. A late Eagles three gave Northwestern a two-point advantage, 32–30, at halftime.
Points were hard to come by late in the third quarter for both teams, but Northwestern found just enough offense to extend its lead to eight heading into the final frame. Crown battled back in the fourth, scoring 18 points and cutting the deficit to five or fewer on multiple occasions, but Northwestern did enough down the stretch to secure the 62–56 win.
Since stepping into the starting lineup for an injured Isabelle Sager, freshman Morgan Bednarek has been a crucial presence for the Polars on both ends of the floor while also making an impact on the glass. She recorded her fourth double-double of the season, finishing with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Cotten, Glasgow, and Youngblood each added 10 points as the Polars received contributions from multiple players. Cotten also grabbed eight rebounds, while Glasgow shot 50 percent from the field and went 2-for-2 from beyond the arc.
