Polars Drop Home Contest to Cougars 75-90

St. Bonifacius, Minn. – The Polars hosted the University of Minnesota Morris on Wednesday night, falling by a score of 75–90.

Anthony Knight got the scoring started, knocking down two early buckets to give the Polars a quick 4–0 lead. Morris responded with six straight points before Parker Behne answered with two consecutive baskets. Down 10–11, Donovan Washington once again provided a spark off the bench, coming up with a steal and converting a fast-break dunk on his first possession of the game. The teams went back and forth for much of the first half, but a quick Cougar push with about five minutes remaining gave Morris a six-point advantage. The Polars cut the lead to one, but another late burst from Morris in the final minute sent the Cougars into halftime with a 43–38 lead.

The Polars were extremely efficient to open the second half, tying the game at 45 just over two minutes in. The Cougars responded well, pushing the lead to as many as 14 within the first ten minutes of the half. Scoring was nearly even the rest of the way, but the deficit proved too much to overcome as the Polars fell 90–75.

Anthony Knight led the way with 23 points, shooting 9–13 from the floor and a perfect 4–4 from the free-throw line. Colby Deluce added 14 points, going 4–9 from three-point range, while Donovan Washington scored 11 points with two steals off the bench. Tyler Smith continued to fill the stat sheet, recording 10 rebounds and 10 assists while finishing just two points shy of a triple-double with eight points. He also added two more blocks to his impressive season total.

After two straight home games, the Polars travel to the University of Northwestern on Saturday, followed by another road contest at the University of Wisconsin–Superior next Wednesday.
