St. Bonifacius, Minn. – The Polars hosted conference rival North Central University on Saturday afternoon, keeping the game competitive throughout before falling by a score of 59–49.
The game opened in unusual fashion, as an administrative technical foul was assessed to the Polars prior to the opening tip, allowing the Rams to score first at the free-throw line. Kendall Clark quickly erased the deficit by knocking down an early three-pointer. Crown stayed hot offensively early, building a five-point advantage that North Central trimmed to two on multiple occasions. The Polars closed the first quarter on a 5–0 run to take a 19–12 lead into the second.
North Central responded with a strong start to the second quarter, scoring 15 consecutive points to flip a seven-point deficit into an eight-point lead. The Rams maintained control for the remainder of the half and took a 33–27 advantage into the break.
The Rams again opened the half with momentum, starting the third quarter on a 9–0 run to extend their lead to 15. North Central held that cushion for much of the quarter, but Crown showed resilience late in the period. The Polars ended the third on an 11–2 run, cutting the deficit to six heading into the final quarter.
Despite Crown's push, North Central slowly pulled away in the fourth to secure the 59–49 victory.
Freshman Morgan Bednarek led the Polars with a double-double, recording 14 points and 13 rebounds. Sydney Cotten added 10 points and eight boards, while Avery Youngblood scored nine points on three made three-pointers.
The Polars return to action on Wednesday, January 21, when they host the University of Minnesota–Morris at 5:30 p.m.
