Becker, Minn. – The Polars Men's and Women's Golf teams competed Thursday at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker, Minnesota, for the UMAC Preview. All conference opponents were present as the men's team finished 7th, while the women took 2nd.
On the men's side, the top four Polars golfers finished within four strokes of each other. Nathan Halseth shot a team-best 81 (+9), placing him 22nd overall. Ryan Kardell was equally impressive, finishing with an 82 (+10), just one stroke behind Halseth. Adam Thomas was right in the mix with an 84 (+12), and just one stroke behind him was Carter Miller with an 85 (+13). Lucas Jorgenson was also right there with his teammates, finishing just four strokes behind Miller with an 89 (+17). Overall, just eight strokes separated the Polars' top five golfers.
For the women, they finished near the top yet again, taking home a hard-fought second-place finish, edging out the third-place finisher by just five total strokes. Like the men, the top women finished with just four strokes of separation: Shelby Cash with an 83 (+11), Kendall Clark with an 85 (+13), and Lexi Thomas with an 87 (+15). Cash finished second overall, just three strokes off the lead. Clark's finish was good enough for fifth, and Thomas's for eighth. Ashley Larson also finished in the top 20, and Allie Johnson in the top 30, both of which were huge for the Polars given the tight battle for second.
Both teams take off for Huntley, Illinois, for the NCCAA Regional Tournament. Play will begin Sunday, September 14, and will continue through Tuesday, September 16. Also, come support the Polars teams Friday, September 19, for the Presidents Cup at the Polars' home course, Island View Club in Waconia, Minnesota.
