Waconia, Minn. - The
Polars Women's Golf team hosted the President's Cup on Tuesday against North Central. The President's Cup is a one day scrimmage with points up for grabs every six holes. The team with the most points at the end of the Cup takes home the trophy and will hold onto it until next year when the cup is back up for grabs.
The scoring format included six holes of 2-person best ball, where the best score from each team is taken to give that team one point each hole (match play), and the winning team got one point. The next six holes were 2-person alternate shot (winning team gets one point), and the last six holes were 1-on-1 match play, where one
Polars golfer is trying to win the hole against one Rams golfer. Two one-on-one match play points are available in each group, so each group is playing for four points with eight points total up for grabs. The groups for the Polars Women were
Kendall Clark and
Lexi Thomas, and
Shelby Cash with
Allie Johnson.
It was pure domination from the start for the Polars women. Cash and Johnson teed off first, against two rams golfers. It was a clean sweep as they won 2-person best ball, alternate shot, and each won their one-on-one matches as they won all four available points. It was nearly a clean sweep as well for Clark and Thomas, as the Rams were able to tie the alternate shot portion of the round. Clark and Thomas won the other 3.5 avaiable points. The Polars women won 7.5 of the 8 points available as they dominate and retain the President's Cup for at least another year.
The Men's and Women's golf teams compete Thursday through Saturday in the three day
UMAC Championship at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker, Minn.
