Superior, WI – The Polars men's basketball team faced off with the University of Wisconsin Superior Yellowjackets on Wednesday night and fell by a score of 51-39.
The Polars found an early spark of offense from Tyrus Buckner and Jacob Van Dam as Crown jumped out to a 9-2 lead just over 5 minutes into the game. From that point on in the half the Polars were able to maintain the lead and despite only shooting 30% from the field. Crown went into the break with a 25-15 lead after the low scoring twenty minutes of play.
Slow offensive play throughout the second half saw the Yellowjackets tie the score up at 36-36 with 4:58 to play in the game. The shooting woes continued for Crown and the Polars only totaled 3 more points in the contest falling 51-39.
Jacob Van Dam led the scoring with 10 points. Tyrus Buckner scored 9 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Tyler Smith also had 10 rebounds. As a team Crown shot just 23.8% going 15-63 from the field and 8.6% from three-point range going 3-35.
With this loss the Polars fall to 13-11 on the season and 6-7 in UMAC play officially being eliminated from the UMAC postseason tournament. Crown will next take on the University of Northwestern on the road Saturday, February 22nd at 3pm.
