St. Paul, Minn. - Crown College Dropped a conference matchup Saturday night, falling 16-24 to the University of Northwestern-St. Paul.
After a slow first quarter, the Polars found momentum in the second. Senior wideout
Jakari Hunnecook capped a four-play, 39-yard drive with a 9-yard touchdown run to bring Crown within three. Freshman kicker Christopher Cardona added a 12-yard field goal just before halftime to make it 17-10 at the break.
The defense tightened in the third quarter, forcing three UNW punts and an interception by
Paul Bueno to keep the game within reach. The Eagles extended their lead in the fourth with a 49-yard touchdown pass to make it 24-10.Â
Sophomore
Jamarrius Courtney led a late 80-yard scoring drive, punching in a 1-yard rushing touchdown with 1:56 remaining. Courtney finished with 229 total yards (137 passing, 92 rushing) and a touchdown on the ground. Hennecook added 36 total yards and a score, while freshman receiver
Christian Robinson caught four passes for 56 yards.Â
Defensively,
Chabon Tovar led the team with nine tackles, and
Jakalyn Roy and
Tel Frisinger each added seven. The Polars out-gained the Eagles 285-227 in total offense and held a 33:44-26:16 edge in time of possession.
Crown drops to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play, while Northwestern improves to 2-5 (2-2 UMAC). The Polars stay on the road for the second straight week as they travel to Morris next Saturday, Nov. 1 for a 2:00 pm game at Big Cat Stadium.Â
