Morris, Minn. — Crown College football earned its fifth win of the year on Saturday afternoon, defeating Minnesota Morris 34–15 on the road to move to 4–1 in UMAC play.
The Polars opened the game with an early defensive strike when Kyjuan Simmons scooped up a fumble and returned it 22 yards for a touchdown late in the first quarter. In the second, Jamarrius Courtney connected with Christian Robinson for a 63-yard score to make it 13–0. After a rare defensive PAT return by the Cougars, Donovan Soloman capped off a nine-play, 80-yard drive with an 11-yard touchdown run just before halftime, sending Crown to the break leading 20–2.
The Polars kept their momentum rolling out of the locker room as Courtney again found Robinson—this time from 37 yards out—to extend the lead to 27–2 early in the third. The Cougars briefly responded with a touchdown, but Courtney answered right back with an 18-yard rushing score in the closing seconds of the quarter to make it 34–8. Minnesota Morris added a late touchdown, but the outcome was never in doubt as Crown's defense sealed the 34–15 victory.
Courtney led the offense with 163 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground while completing 4-of-10 passes for 122 yards and two more scores through the air. Robinson was on the receiving end of all four completions, finishing with 122 yards and both touchdown receptions. Soloman added 32 rushing yards and a touchdown, helping Crown total 206 yards on the ground and 328 yards of total offense.
Defensively, Crown was relentless—recording six sacks and forcing four turnovers. Jaylen Gray paced the unit with 11 tackles and two pass breakups, while Geovonni Pena and Jakalyn Roy each registered 1.5 sacks. Simmons and Nathan Tomlinson each recorded takeaways, with Simmons' fumble return for a touchdown setting the tone early and Tomlinson's interception helping shut down the Cougars' offense late.
The Polars return home next Saturday, November 8, to host Martin Luther for their final home game of the season. The Polars will enter that game first place in the conference with two games left in the regular season. They will then finish the regular season at Greenville on November 15, in a game that could very easily decide the UMAC Champion.
