New Ulm, Minn. - The Polars pick up another win at Martin Luther on Saturday 17-7, moving their record to 3-2.
Crown took advantage of an early Pass Interference call on 3rd and long by with a
Jakari Hunnecook rushing touchdown, set up by a steady rushing game with
Jamarrius Courtney and
Donovan Soloman. Eddie Hollowanger comes up with his third interception in the last two Polars quarters dating back to the fourth quarter agains Northwestern as he picks off the Knights early in their next drive. After back to back punts, the Polars would score early in the second quarter as Courtney connects with Hunnecook on a 15-yard touchdown pass for Hunnecooks second touchdown of the game, moving the score to 14-0 in favor of the Polars. The score would remain this way the rest of the quarter, sending the Polars into halftime with a two touchdown lead on the Knights.
After the Knights punt to open the third quarter, the Polars get points on their next possession after
Chris Cardona connects on a 30-yard field goal. The Polars, with a 17-0 lead mid-way through the 3rd quarter, were set up nicely to hang on to their lead with their stellar defense and effective run game. The Knights would score their only touchdown of the game early in the fourth quarter, but the Polars would shut them down the rest of the game, keeping the lead at 17-7, which is where the game would end.
The Polars defense forced one turnover, turned the Knights over on downs 3 times, and forced 5 punts. They gave up just 24 rushing yards, and only 207 yards of total offense with 4 sacks. They also held the Knights to 0 of 4 on 4th down conversions and just 3 of 12 on 3rd down. Offensively, the Polars rushed for 212 yards with 259 yards of total offense. The Polars were also 3 of 5 on fourth down and scored on 3 out of 4 times they reached the red zone.
Their were also numerous notable individual statlines on the afternoon.
Jamarrius Courtney ran for 119 yards, while
Donovan Soloman ran for 51 yards.
Jakari Hunnecook scored two touchdowns, one on the ground, and one through the air. Defensively, the Polars had four players tied for the lead in total tackles with 5. These players were
Rudy Criner,
Nathan Tomlinson,
Keivon Davis, and
Jakalyn Roy who impressed yet again with 3 tackles for loss and a sack.
David Hernandez also had a big day with two sacks, and Giovonni Pena added the fourth sack on the day for the Polars defense.
The Polars return home next Saturday, October 18, for their Tackle Cancer game against Westminster (MO). The game starts at 12:00pm at Old National Bank Stadium on the campus of Crown College.
