Indianola, Iowa -Â Crown traveled to face Simpson College on Saturday evening and ran into a difficult challenge as the Storm pulled away for a 52-0 victory at Bill Buxton Stadium.
Simpson opened the scoring late in the first quarter, capping a 99-yard touchdown drive to take a 7-0 lead. The Storm then seized control in the second quarter, scoring four touchdowns to build a 35-0 halftime advantage.
The Polars showed resilience coming out of the break, putting together their longest drive of the game midway through the third quarter. Crown marched 66 yards on a 13-play possession that consumed more than eight minutes and reached the Simpson eight-yard line before turning the ball over on downs. Simpson added a field goal later in the quarter and scored twice in the fourth to secure the final margin.
Offensively, Crown was led on the ground by Judah Davis, who carried the ball 18 times for 46 yards, including a long rush of 20 yards. Zach Brown completed 2-of-9 passes for 19 yards, while Rudy Gonzales added five passing yards and two rushing yards. Michael Sarych paced the receiving corps with two catches for 19 yards, and Bryce Ternes added a five-yard reception.
Defensively, Brian Amune Jr. led the Polars with 11 total tackles. Jakayln Roy turned in one of Crown's top defensive performances, recording seven tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and the team's lone sack. Keivon Davis finished with seven tackles and a quarterback hurry, while Travis Moore and Xavier Bueno each added six tackles. Maguire Keller contributed five tackles and a tackle for loss, and Braylon Eidsvoog recorded five stops.
On special teams, Reichen Hoekstra punted seven times for 265 yards, averaging 37.9 yards per kick. He placed two punts inside the 20-yard line and delivered a long punt of 52 yards. In the return game, AJ Shaffer totaled 140 kickoff-return yards on five returns, highlighted by a 37-yard return, while Nathan Tomlinson added 63 kickoff-return yards.
Crown will look to bounce back next week as the Polars return home for Homecoming against Martin Luther. Although Martin Luther is a fellow UMAC member, the matchup will not count in the conference standings.
