St. Bonifacius, Minn. - The Crown College Polars football team took on the St. Scholastica Saints on Saturday for a homecoming night matchup and fell by a score of 35-15.
After three and outs from both teams' offenses the Saints drove 80 yards on 8 plays to score the first touchdown of the game and take the 7-0 lead. Crown on the next possession punted the ball away on their second drive. Five plays into the St. Scholastica drive the Polars forced a fumble and took over in Saints territory. Zach Brown to
Jakari Hunnecook, after a missed extra point the score read 7-6 in the Saints favor. The first quarter ended there.Â
The Polars offense ran just 9 plays in the second quarter as St. Scholastica maintained possession for 10 minutes in the second quarter. The Crown defense came up with a big stop before the end of the half as a field goal attempt was missed by the Saints and the score at the half favored the Saints 7-6. The second half saw the Polars go three and out the first four possessions and the Saints put points on the board to take a 35-6 lead with 7:34 remaining in the game. A late passing touchdown from Brown to Hunnecook again, followed by Crwon forcing a safety ended the contest with the score reading 35-15.
Rudy Criner set a single game school record with 19 total tackles in the contest. Criner with that performance now becomes the Crown all-time leader in total tackles with 297 tackles and counting. Criner also had a forced fumble and 2 tackles for loss.
Zamir Clayton had a banner performance with 13 total tackles and 1 tackle for loss.
Gabe Banks also had 10 tackles for Crown.Â
Quarterback
Zach Brown went 18-41 in the contest for 246 yards and 2 passing touchdowns with 3 interceptions. Hunnecook finished the game with 7 receptions for 93 yards and 2 receiving touchdowns.
Chris Nigh totaled 11 rushing yards on 7 carries.Â
Crown falls to 0-3 on the season and will have a bye week before heading on the road to the University of Northwestern on Saturday, October 5th with kickoff set for 1pm.
