St. Bonifacius, Minn. – The Polars men's basketball team hosted the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Wednesday night and fell to the Blugolds 77-71.
The Blugolds jumped out ahead early leading the Polars 16-11 about midway through the first half. Both teams struggled on the offensive end of the floor and the remainder of the first half was a similar story, the Polars and Blugolds would trade buckets. Eau Claire finished the first half with a six-point run to extend their lead 31-24 going into the half.
Half number two started slow for the Polars after a short jumper for the Polars, Eau Claire went on a nine point run to extend their lead 40-26 early in the second half. A few minutes later the Polars started to close the gap, but the Blugolds found their stride scoring 13 straight points putting them up 56-36 extending their lead to 20. Back to back three's from
Parker Behne cut the lead and Crown climbed back into the contest down by ten points with 8:40 to play. Crown continued to claw their way back into the game as they trailed 64-61 with four minutes to go. The Polars were unable to get any closer than that and were unable to complete the comeback falling to the Blugolds 77-71.
Parker Behne led the Polars in scoring with 12 on the night. His brother
Carter Behne followed close behind with 11 points adding two steals.
John Grigsby and
Tyrus Buckner each added ten points and Buckner also grabbed eight rebounds on the night.
It was a historic night for
Micah Ladd as he tallied 7 assists to reach 462 assists in his career. This total puts him atop the record book as he set the NCAA-Era UMAC record for career assists with 462 passing the likes of a former North Central Ram in Nathan Roeder.
Crown falls to 4-2 on the year and will next host Maranatha Baptist University this Friday, December 6th at 7:30pm.
