New Ulm, Minn. – The Polars football team traveled on the road to face off with Martin Luther on Saturday and fell by a score of 13-0
After a Polars three and out Martin Luther drove 56 yards on 14 plays controlling possession for seven minutes. The Knights would finish the drive with a field goal taking the 3-0 lead with 6:27 to go in the quarter. Another long drive from the Knights was ended by an interception from Gabe Banks returned 22 yards after penalties. With that interception Banks broke the school record for interceptions in a season with 6 on the year.
With under two minutes to go in the first half the Knights marched down the field to the Crown 33-yard line and with 3 seconds remaining fired up an unsuccessful hail mary. All four of Crown's offensive drives in the first half ended with punts.
The Knights opened up the second alf with a touchdown drive that ran off almost 7 minutes off the clock to take a 10-0 lead. With 4:06 to go in the third quarter Isaac Herron recovered a fumble and returned it 30 yards to put Crown in scoring position. After the Polars got stopped on third down and short the Polars missed a field goal. The Knights added one more field goal and the final score favored Martin Luther 13-0.
Millicent Grear had a monster defensive effort totaling 18 tackles and tying a single game school record with 4 tackles for loss. Jamoriyon Stephenson tallied 13 tackles. Gabe Banks added a forced fumble, 11 tackles, and 1 interception.
The Polars fall to 1-8 on the season and 1-5 in UMAC play. Crown will return to action next Saturday, November 16th at 12pm for senior day and the final contest of the season.
