St. Bonifacius, Minn. - The Polars faced off against Saint Mary's University at home for their season opener on Friday and fell 87-80.
Crown jumped out ahead early in the first half going up 10-5. The Cardinals were able to close the gap and cut the Polars lead to 25-23. Both teams traded buckets throughout the first half as they combined for four lead changes, but Crown was able to take the lead going into the half 37-36. Crown shot 40% from the field in the first half.
To start the second half the Cardinals jumped out in front with a 9-4 run leading the Polars 47-41 with 16:35 to go in the contest. Crown took the lead back going on a 9-2 run of their own giving the Polars a 50-49 point lead. With 6:44 to go the Cardinals pulled away stretching the lead to ten points. From that point forward the Polars weren't able to crawl their way back into the game and the final score read 87-80 in Saint Mary's favor.
The Polars had players total double digit points in the game.
Tyrus Buckner lead the team with 16 points, while also leading the team in rebounds with 7.
Carter Behne had 14 points for the Polars and his brother
Parker Behne added 12.
John Grigsby put up 11 points and tallied 5 rebounds.
Micah Ladd led the Polars in both assists and steals with 5 assists and 2 steals on the night.
Crown falls to 0-1 on the season and will return home for their next contest as they take on Faith Baptist on Friday, November 15th at 7:00pm.
