MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.- The Crown College Women's Soccer team suffered their first UMAC defeat of the 2024 season earlier this week. However, on Saturday, Coach
Katie Kandt's squad did not allow a losing streak to form. The Polars bounced back with a 3-1 road victory over the North Central Rams.
Nearly twenty minutes of game time transpired before the scoring started between the two teams. In the 19
th minute,
Emma Domka broke the scoreless tie by putting a ball in the lower left corner of the Rams' net.
Ellie Schanbacher picked up the assist.
The remainder of the first half went by without any more goals taking place and the Polars took their slim lead into the halftime break. Despite the tightness of the score, the first 90 minutes were very lopsided in Crown's favor in terms of the other statistics. The Polars fired 19 shots in the opening 45 minutes while the Rams did not register a shot in the first half.
Offense was easier to come by in the second half. In the 60
th minute, Domka scored her second goal of the warm afternoon. This time,
Abigail Shull was credited with the assist.
Crown extended their lead to 3-0 in the 68th minute when
Lexi Shreve took an
Ashley Pierce pass and buried it in the back of the net. North Central got a goal back in the final minute of the contest, but their comeback would fall short. The Polars improved to 3-1-1 in UMAC play with a 3-1 victory.
Crown outshot North Central 31-3 and had 15 shots on goal while the Rams had two.
Tuesday, October 8
th marks a big day for UMAC Women's Soccer at Old National Bank Stadium. The Polars will host reigning UMAC Regular Season and Tournament Champions Wisconsin-Superior at 4:30 PM. Last season, these two teams met in the UMAC Semifinals and Wisconsin-Superior edged Crown with a late goal.
