Fulton, MO - Polars football took the long road trip down south to take on Westminster College this weekend and came out with their first win of the season.
The Polars started with the ball first and after a three and out from the Polars offense Jake Brush got the ball right back to the Crown offense after an interception on the Blue Jays first offensive play. The Polars proceeded to move the ball and had the drive capped off with a 30-yard Brock Knick field goal to take the 3-0 lead.
The next drive for Crown resulted in the Polars finding the end zone after a 10-play series that saw Donovan Soloman take a 6-yard touchdown run to give Crown the 9-0 lead. After a failed two-point conversion attempt and a few plays Crown led after one quarter. Three plays into the second quarter Crown turned the ball over on downs giving the Blue Jays great field position. Westminster found their first points on a 20-yard field goal. Both offenses struggled to move the ball in the second quarter, but it was the Blue Jays who cut into the Crown lead with another field goal as the score read 9-6 Crown in front at the break.
With 7:24 remaining in the third quarter the Blue Jays found paydirt taking the 13-9 lead. Crown marched the ball down to the 5 yard line right at the end of the third quarter and found the end zone on a backwards pass to their left tackle Donovan Quinzy from Zach Brown. The Polars took the 16-13 lead and did not look back as the next possession saw Gabe Banks take an interception back 30 yards for a touchdown and Crown ran away with the 4th quarter as Soloman found the end zone once again propelling Crown to the 30-13 victory.
Donovan Soloman totaled 34 carries for 184 rushing yards and 2 rushing touchdowns in another outstanding performance. David Hernandez totaled 8 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss. Jared Pardee added 3.5 tackles for loss and 1 sack. Gabe Banks totaled 3 interceptions including a pick six. Jake Brush had a banner day as well, grabbing two interceptions in the contest.
