St. Bonifacius, Minn. - The Polars football team took on the Martin Luther College Knights on Saturday and fell by a score of 30-14.
After a four play touchdown drive from the Knights and a few changes in possession, Crown answered with a 22 yard touchdown run from
Donovan Soloman evened up the score at 7-7 with just 4:37 remaining in the first quarter. The rest of the first half did not go the Polars way as the Knights totaled 23 unanswered points to take the 30-7 lead going into the half.
The second half was a much different story for the Polars as the Crown defense held strong forcing the Knights to punt three times and force a turnover on downs in the third quarter. With 25 seconds remaining in the third quarter freshman quarterback
Ethan Peterson threw his first career touchdown pass to
Bryce Ternes from 14 yards out and the Polars cut the lead to 30-14. Both teams played with multiple quarterbacks in the contest and the score ended at 30-14 as the Polars turned it over on downs their final three possessions.
Ethan Peterson threw for 122 yards and 1 touchdown as he went 7-12 through the air.
Zach Brown went 6-13 and totaled 55 passing yards.
Donovan Soloman had another strong showing as he carried the ball 25 times for 112 yards and earned a rushing touchdown.
Seth Medina led the Crown receiving core with 5 catches for 107 yards.
Gabe Banks led the Crown defensive effort with 10 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 1 sack, and 1 breakup.
David Hernandez totaled 8 tackles and half a sack.
Millicent Grear totaled 7 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and half a sack.
The Polars fall to 0-5 on the season and will next head south to Fulton, Missouri to take on the Westminster College Blue Jays on Saturday. October 19th at 12pm.
