St Bonifacius, MN — Homecoming Saturday continued at Crown College as the men's soccer team took the field against the University of Wisconsin-Superior, battling the Yellowjackets in a competitive conference match up.
The Polars wasted little time giving the Homecoming crowd something to cheer about. In the ninth minute, Josiah Hoffmann delivered the opening goal of the match, putting Crown in front 1-0 and giving the Polars early momentum against a strong Superior side. Crown's defense worked to protect the lead through much of the first half as Superior increased pressure in the attacking third. The Yellowjackets eventually broke through in the 41st minute, scoring the equalizer to send the match into halftime tied 1-1.
The second half remained even for a long stretch, with the Polars continuing to defend against steady pressure while looking for opportunities to regain the lead. Superior found the go-ahead goal in the 71st minute and added another in the 86th minute to secure the 3-1 result.
Men's soccer will return to action Tuesday, hosting Bethany Lutheran following the women's match.
