Gerbers Hits for Cycle in Game One as Polars Sweep Doubleheader at MLC

New Ulm, Minn. - The Polars baseball team traveled to New Ulm on Saturday for the start of their second conference series of the season. They picked up a doubleheader sweep to secure the series win over Martin Luther.

Game 1
Martin Luther jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with a bases-clearing triple in the first inning. The Polars quickly responded in the second, as Aidan Garza drove in two runs with a single. Bryan Gerbers followed with a two-RBI double to give the Polars a 4-3 lead.

In the third inning, Easton McKenzie executed a double steal, swiping home to extend the lead to 5-3. Gerbers added a solo home run in the fourth, and Carrick Burke's RBI single in the fifth made it 7-3.

After the Knights plated one in the fifth, the Polars broke the game open with a 12-run sixth inning. Garza started the rally with a leadoff home run. Gerbers added an RBI single, TJ Reilly drove in a run with a double and later scored on a wild pitch, and back-to-back RBI singles from Blayke Reyburn and Burke pushed the lead to 13-4.

Caden Esquerra added an RBI single before Gerbers completed the cycle with a two-RBI triple. Reilly drove in another run with a double, Tyler Olson followed with an RBI single, and McKenzie capped the inning with another RBI single. The offensive explosion gave the Polars a 19-4 lead and ended the game after seven innings.

Game 2
For the second straight game, Martin Luther struck first, scoring six runs in the opening inning. The Polars answered in the second when Carson Sanders singled and McKenzie followed with a two-run home run to cut into the deficit.

After scoreless third and fourth innings, the Polars surged ahead with a five-run fifth. Garza and Esquerra opened the inning with singles, Gerbers drove in a run with a double, and TJ Reilly added a sacrifice fly. Gerbers later scored on a wild pitch to bring the Polars within one. Tristan Wekseth drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game, and Burke lifted a sacrifice fly to give the Polars a 7-6 lead.

Gerbers added insurance with a sacrifice fly in the eighth, and Charlie Joyce delivered an RBI double in the ninth to cap the scoring. The Polars pulled away for a 15-6 victory to complete the sweep.

The Saturday sweep moves the Polars to 3-2 in conference play. The final game of the series is scheduled for Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
