St. Peter, MN - The Polars baseball team faced off with Minnesota Morris over the weekend in a three game series and dropped two out of three winning the third game of the series 13-10.
After falling behind 7-1 in game one the Polars battled back to within three runs late in the 9th inning but could not complete the comeback.
TJ Reilly hit two home runs in the game tallying four runs batted in and
Caden Esquerra hit his first college home run.
Cole Vahovick and
Charlie Joyce both pitched four innings in game one.
Game two was a battle with the Polars trailing the Cougars 2-1 early then stayed within one run 4-3 after the top half of the 7th inning. Morris pushed across three runs in the 7th and the 8th inning to finish out the contest 10-4.
Gideon Vana went 2-3 in the game with one RBI.
Carrick Burke knocked in two runs as well.
Blake Lowrey and
Jackson Phillipp both pitched in the game combining for 5 strikeouts.
The third game of the series was all Crown late in the game after taking a 3-2 lead the Cougars answered tying the game at 3-3. The Polars scored 4 runs in the 7th after hits from Reilly and
Bryan Gerbers. After giving up 7 runs in the bottom half of the 8th inning Crown pushed across 5 of their own and went on to earn their first UMAC victory of the season 13-10. Six different Polars had multi hit efforts with Esquerra, Gerbers, and Burke all with 3 hits each.
Zac Luinstra got the start and
Brett Torbeck earned the win after pitching 2.2 innings.
Crown moved to 2-14 overall amnd 1-2 in UMAC play and next will head on the road to take on Martin Luther College for a three game series starting this upcoming weekend.
