Box Score 4 Tucson, Ariz. – The Polars baseball team played four games over two days, including games against Aurora University and Carthage College on Thursday, and a doubleheader against Wheaton College (Ill.) on Friday.
Aurora University – After a loss to Aurora on Wednesday, the Polars responded with a 7–6 victory for their first win of the season. Four players tallied multiple hits for Crown. Carrick Burke went 3‑for‑5 with a double and two runs scored. Aidan Garza went 2‑for‑4 with three runs scored. Bryan Gerbers went 2‑for‑3 with an RBI on a sacrifice fly. Easton McKenzie was the other Polar with multiple hits, going 2‑for‑4 with a run and an RBI. Tyler Olson went 1‑for‑3 with a run scored and three RBIs, also adding a sacrifice fly. Burke, McKenzie, and TJ Reilly all had stolen bases as well. Reilly also had a hit in the game on an RBI single. Broc Carter picked up the win, pitching the final two innings and giving up just one run. Blake Lowrey threw seven solid innings to give the Polars a chance to come out with a victory, striking out three batters.
Wheaton College (Game 1) – The Polars played a doubleheader against Wheaton College on Friday, losing the first game 7–6. Wheaton took an early lead, scoring the first six runs of the game. The Polars fought back, scoring one in the sixth on a Carson Sanders single that scored Bryan Gerbers. In the bottom half of the seventh, Aidan Garza singled in Gideon Vana to cut the lead to 7–2. Olson walked, and Sanders reached on an error that scored Esquerra to load the bases for the Polars with two outs and the score 7–3. Reilly cleared the bases with a double, bringing the Polars within one run of the Thunder with two outs and a runner in scoring position. Crown was unable to bring the tying run home as Wheaton held on to a 7–6 victory.
Reilly finished 3‑for‑4 with three RBIs and a double. Sanders went 2‑for‑4 with an RBI. Esquerra, Garza, Olson, Gerbers, and McKenzie all tallied a hit of their own.
Wheaton College (Game 2) – Game 2 of the Friday doubleheader saw a 17–5 Wheaton win over the Polars. Carrick Burke went 3‑for‑4 with two doubles and an RBI. Aidan Garza went 2‑for‑3 with two runs scored, and Esquerra added two more hits, including a two‑RBI double and a run scored.
The Polars' second game on Thursday was a 12–3 loss to Carthage College. The Polars will play one game on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. against Carthage College. Then on Monday, they finish up their trip with a game against Claremont‑Mudd‑Scripps.
