Minneapolis, Minn. - The Polars softball team faced off with Augsburg and St. Olaf on opening day and came out with a 12-8 win and 9-1 loss.
Game one of the day saw Crown score two runs in the top half of the first inning with a double from
Katie Vaughan and a couple of walks. The Auggies answered with 4 of their own runs in the bottom half and held the lead until the 6th inning. A huge sixth inning with an
Emmy Romportl triple,
Itzel Valles double,
Brooklyn Ocker single, and a handful of walks saw a crooked number of 8 runs scored by Crown.Â
The Polars led 11-8 and tacked on one more to earn their first win of the season.
Lindsey Stapleton,
Itzel Valles, and
Katie Vaughan all had 2 hits in the game.
Lindsey Stapleton earned the win pitching two innings allowing just two hits after relieving
Brooklyn Ocker.
Game two favored the Oles from the start with a sacrifice fly giving St. Olaf a 1-0 lead. Crown answered with a
Maria Lilienthal RBI single to tie the score at 1-1. It was all St. Olaf from there as the Oles scored 8 unanswered to win after five innings of play.
Crown totaled four hits all coming from different players.
Emmy Romportl and
Brooklyn Riley both pitched for Crown in the matchup.
