Softball Splits on Opening Day Defeating Augsburg

Minneapolis, Minn. - The Polars softball team faced off with Augsburg and St. Olaf on opening day and came out with a 12-8 win and 9-1 loss.

Game one of the day saw Crown score two runs in the top half of the first inning with a double from Katie Vaughan and a couple of walks. The Auggies answered with 4 of their own runs in the bottom half and held the lead until the 6th inning. A huge sixth inning with an Emmy Romportl triple, Itzel Valles double, Brooklyn Ocker single, and a handful of walks saw a crooked number of 8 runs scored by Crown.

The Polars led 11-8 and tacked on one more to earn their first win of the season. Lindsey Stapleton, Itzel Valles, and Katie Vaughan all had 2 hits in the game. Lindsey Stapleton earned the win pitching two innings allowing just two hits after relieving Brooklyn Ocker.

Game two favored the Oles from the start with a sacrifice fly giving St. Olaf a 1-0 lead. Crown answered with a Maria Lilienthal RBI single to tie the score at 1-1. It was all St. Olaf from there as the Oles scored 8 unanswered to win after five innings of play.

Crown totaled four hits all coming from different players. Emmy Romportl and Brooklyn Riley both pitched for Crown in the matchup.
