Box Score 2 St. Paul, Minn. – The Polars baseball team faced off with Northwestern on Saturday and won both games by scores of 5-3 and 11-1.
Game one saw Ashton Long kick off the scoring with a sacrifice fly to center field in the 4th inning. A Keegan Eastman single drove in Tyler Olson and Crown had the 2-0 lead. The Eagles answered with one run but Crown followed up with a run in the 5th off a Bryan Gerbers sacrifice fly and a run in the 6th off an RBI walk from Gerbers. Crown held the lead 4-3 despite two runs from Northwestern in the 7th. Crown pushed one more run across and Drew Girtz shut the door earning the save in the 5-3 victory.
Aidan Volk-Specht earned the win as he pitched 6.1 innings allowing just 2 earned runs on 4 hits with 5 strike outs. Julian Encinas and Keegan Eastman both had two hit efforts and Gerbers tallied 2 RBI's.
Game two started in the Polars favor as Crown tallied a 5 run second inning on 6 hits. The Polars offense showed up pushing across 2 runs in the 4th and 2 runs in the 6th to take the 9-1 lead. RBI hits from Ethan Habetler and Will Hellard gave the Polars the ten run lead heading into the bottom of the 8th inning and Crown came out on top 11-1.
Ryan Vondracek pitched 6 innings allowing just 1 earned runs and 4 hits. Quentin Holmes pitched 2 innings in relief of scoreless baseball. Drew Girtz, Charlie Joyce, Kyler Thruston, Tyler Olson, and Ashton Long all tabbed multi hit efforts in the contest.
Crown moves to 21-15 on the season and 16-5 in UMAC play and will return to action next week with their final non-conference game of the season on the road at Saint John's on Monday, May 5th at 4:30pm.
