St. Bonifacius, Minn. - The Polars softball team faced off with Mount Mary in a doubleheader and came out on top by scores of 21-1 and 7-1.
Crown got the scoring started with one run in the first inning after hits from
Katie Vaughan and
Maria Lilienthal. From that point forward the Polars found their offense knocking in 19 runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings. After 18 total hits and 4 innings from
Emmy Romportl in the circle
Abbey Underdahl closed it out as Crown went on to win.
Romportl tied a single game school record with 5 RBI's in the game. Vaughan and Lilienthal both had 4 hits in the contest. Lilienthal also hit her second home run of the season.
Game two saw a much closer battle as both teams were unable to score in the first three innings of play. Crown got on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the 4th as hits from Romportl, Vaughan,
Itzel Valles, and
Morgan Aylsworth allowed the Polars to take the 3-0 lead. The lead was extended to 7-0 after six innings of play and a late run by Mount Mary was not enough as the Polars took the 7-1 victory.
The Polars move to 11-15 on the season and will next return home for a three game series against Bethany Lutheran College starting on Friday, April 11th at 4pm.
