Superior, WI - The Polars baseball team faced of with the University of Wisconsin Superior on Saturday night and came out on top 8-6 in extra innings.
The story of the day was the long ball as
Ashton Long got things going in the 2nd inning with a solo shot to right center. The top of the third inning saw
Tyler Bloom hit a three run home run pushing Crown out in front 4-0. The Yellowjackets battled back taking a 6-5 lead into the 7th inning.
Julian Encinas led off the 9th inning with a solo blast to right center and tied it at 6-6.
Quentin Holmes shut down UW-Superior to earn the win after a two run go ahead home run from the likes of
Bryan Gerbers gave Crown the win.
Jacob Van Dam pitched 5.1 innings allowing 4 earned runs on just 5 hits.
Mitchell Cox and
Danny Gallardo combined to pitch 2.2 innings in relief and allow no runs.
Julian Encinas tabbed 3 hits leading the Crown offense.
Drew Girtz also ahd two hits on the evening.
The Polars move to 10-10 on the season and 5-2 in UMAC play and will face off with UW-Superior tomorrow April 6th starting a 1pm in a doubleheader to decide the series.
