Vaughan Tallies 5 RBI's in Doubleheader as Softball Sweeps Knights

New Ulm, Minn. - The Polars faced off with Martin Luther College on Saturday in a doubleheader and came out with two wins on the days by scores of 10-2 and 12-2.

A sacrifice fly from Maria Lilienthal and a double from Katie Vaughan gave Crown the 2-0 lead in the first game of the day. Martin Luther tied the score at 2-2 after 5 innings of play. In the 6th inning Crown opened up the scoring pushing across 8 runs on 6 hits and shut the Knights out in the bottom half of the 6th to take the victory. 

Emmy Romportl, Kya Oakes, and Vaughan all had multi hit efforts at the plate. Romportl earned her 8th triple of the season. Abbie Carroll earned her 7th win of the season in the circle and allowed just 2 earned runs on 6 total hits.

Game two saw the Polars jump out in front early and hold the lead throughout. A combined 6 hits across the first two innings from the Crown bats gave the Polars a 6-0 lead. The Knights tacked on a few runs in the 4th inning, but Crown came out victorious after answering with five more runs to take the 12-4 win.

Abbey Underdahl, Sydney Gardner, and Kylei Abreo all had 3 hits each. Abreo, Underdahl, and Maliya Martinez combined for 6 runs batted in. As a team the Polars totaled 16 hits in the game. Romportl hit her first home run of the season and pitched a complete game allowing just 4 hits and 2 earned runs.

Crown moves to 16-18 on the season and 7-8 in UMAC play and will wrap up the regular season with a three game home series against Northwestern starting on Friday, May 3rd at 4pm with a shot at the UMAC postseason tournament on the line.
