St. Bonifacius, Minn. - The Polars softball team faced off with Northwestern St. Paul on Friday afternoon and came out on top 3-1.
After a scoreless first inning Crown pushed a cross a run on a
Catelyn Garza RBI single driving in
Itzel Valles. The 1-0 was matched by the Eagles in the top of the 3rd inning and the score was evened up at 1-1. After a walk from
Abbey Underdahl and a sacrifice bunt from
Kaylee Fude,
Maliya Martinez was able to poke one out into right for a base hit to take the 2-1 lead. The Polars scored one run in the 5th inning on an
Itzel Valles sacrifice fly to take the 3-1 lead.
Emmy Romportl shut the door allowing just one hit the rest of the way as Crown earned the victory.
Romportl allowed just 1 earned run on 5 total hits in the complete game in the circle to earn her 10th win on the season. Crown totaled 6 hits as a team and had them come from all different batters.
Crown moves to 17-18 on the season and 8-8 in UMAC play and will face off with Northwestern in a doubleheader tomorrow Saturday, May 3rd with the last spot in the UMAC postseason tournament on the line.
