St. Bonifacius, Minn. - The Polars baseball team faced off with Northland College on Saturday in a doubleheader and won both by scores of 16-3 and 11-4.
Game one saw Crown take the lead in the first inning with a
Kyler Thruston home run. Northland answered back taking the 3-2 lead after the top of the 4th inning. From that point forward Crown scored 14 unanswered runs with a couple of errors and RBI hits from
Julian Encinas,
Keegan Eastman,
Bryan Gerbers, and
Tyler Olson. Olson and Gerbers both hit three run home runs as Crown took the 16-3 win after 7 innings of play.
Aidan Volk-Specht earned the win pitching 4.1 innings and allowing just 2 earned runs.
Jackson Phillipp pitched 2.2 innings and shut the door. Gerbers totaled 4 RBI's and the likes of Olson and
Louis Garcia both had 3 RBI's. Encinas tabbed three hits in the contest.
Game two was Crown's game from start to finish as the Polars led the entire game. Gerbers started things off with a 2 run double and after a
Tyler Bloom double in the second innings Crown led 5-0. The Polars rode the hot bats to a 11-4 victory and the series sweep.
Charlie Joyce and
Tyler Bloom both had two hit efforts. Gerbers totaled 5 RBI's in game two bringing his total for the series to 11 RBI's.
Ryan Vondracek earned the win pitching 6 innings and allowing just 1 earned run and 5 hits.
The Polars move to 16-13 on the season and 11-4 in UMAC play and will next play a non-conference game at home against St. Olaf on Monday, April 21st at 4:30pm.
