St. Bonifacius, Minn. - The Polars baseball team faced off with Northland College on Friday evening and came out on top 8-0.
The scoring started in the bottom half of the first inning after
Drew Girtz reached on a walk and stole second base,
Kyler Thruston doubled to knock in the first run of the game. After a stolen base Thruston scored and Crown took the 2-0 lead. Thruston added to the Crown run total driving a ball over the right field fence at Missile Park for his first home run of his career to take the 4-0 lead. The Polars added on in the 7th and went on to win 8-0.
Jacob Van Dam pitched all 9 innings and allowed just 3 hits in the shutout. He earned his 5th win of the season. Thruston and
Tyler Olson both tallied 2 hits in the contest. Girtz reached on 2 walks and also was hit by pitch twice.
Crown moves to 14-13 on the season and 9-4 in UMAC play and will finish the three game series with the Lumberjacks tomorrow Saturday, April 19th in a doubleheader starting at 2:30pm.
