Tucson, AZ - The Polars baseball team battled with Caltech on Saturday and came out with a 13-4 victory.
Crown scored two runs in the top of the 1st inning off of 4 hits.
Kyler Thruston and
Tyler Bloom both earned RBI's in the inning. The Polars tacked on a few more runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings to take a 5-3 lead going into the 4th inning. The Beavers scored one run in the 7th but the Polars offense exploded totaling 7 more hits and 8 runs to come away with the victory.
Ryan Vondracek started the contest and pitched 4 innings allowing just 1 earned run.
Brett Torbeck earned the win pitching two innings in relief allowing allowing no hits and no runs.
Mitchell Cox and
Charlie Joyce closed out the final 3 innings of play.
Thruston totaled 3 hits and 4 RBI's at the plate. With two triples Thruston tied the single game school record for triples in a game. Bloom,
Drew Girtz, and
TJ Reilly all had 2 hits in the contest.
Louis Garcia tallied 3 RBI's in the game.
Bryan Gerbers and Garcia both had two stolen bases in the game.
The Polars move to 2-2 on the season and will next take on Wesleyan University down in Tucson on Monday, March 10th at 10am (CST).
