Polars Softball Suffers Close Losses to Auggies

Minneapolis, Minn. - The Polars softball team faced off with Augsburg on Friday night in a doubleheader and fell in both games by scores of 5-3 and 9-8.

The Polars started game one out in front after two doubles from Maria Lilienthal tallying three RBI's pushing Crown out in front 3-0 after the top half of the third inning. Emmy Romportl in the circle pitched 4 no hit innings. The Auggies scored 5 runs on 5 hits in the 5th and took the 5-3 lead and that's where the score finished as the Polars fell.

Romportl and Lilienthal earned two hits each in the game. Romportl pitched all six innings for a complete game allowing 5 earned runs.

Game two went back and forth throughout the first four innings with both teams gaining control of the lead with five lead changes. Crown was able to pull ahead 6-5 in the 4th inning after the likes of Katie Vaughan, Itzel Valles, Abbie Carroll, Sydney Gardner, and Lilienthal all earning two hits.

Crown kept the lead 7-6 in the 6th inning until the top of the 7th when the Auggies tied it up at 7-7. The game would go into extra innings and Augsburg pushed two runs across to take the lead 9-7. A single from Vaughan to start the inning put runners on the corners and an RBI groundout from Valles cut the score to 9-8 and Augsburg came out on top.

Vaughan totaled 3 hits in the contest and 2 walks. Lilienthal added another 2 RBI's for a total of 4 RBI's in the doubleheader. Abbie Carroll pitched 6 innings and allowed 5 earned runs. Romportl pitched the final two innings.
