Tucson, AZ – The Polars baseball team faced off against Concordia University Wisconsin on Friday afternoon and came out on top 9-6.
The Falcons jumped out to the early lead after knocking in 5 runs in the first two innings. Crown answered with their first run of the game in the bottom of the 2nd when an Ethan Habetler single drove in Tyler Olson. The Polars added two more runs in the 3rd after a two RBI single from Tyler Bloom to make the score 5-3.
A three hit bottom half of the 6th inning from Crown knocked in two runs as Drew Girtz singled with the bases loaded and tied the score at 5-5. Concordia took the lead back for a half inning before an Ashton Long home run pushed the Polars out in front 7-6. A two-run home run from Bryan Gerbers put the Polars out in front 9-6 and Quentin Holmes shut the door earning the save in the 9th.
Aidan Volk-Specht pitched 4 innings, allowing 8 hits and 5 earned runs. Danny Gallardo pitched 2.1 innings allowing 1 earned run on just 2 hits. Tyler Olson went 4-4 at the plate with a double. Kyler Thruston and Bryan Gerbers both tabbed 3 hits.
The Polars move to 1-2 on the season and will next face off with Caltech at 10am (CST) tomorrow Saturday, March 8th.
