Softball Defeats Alverno, Falls to Geneva on Monday Morning

Fort Meyers, FL – The Polars softball team faced off against Alverno and Geneva on Monday. Crown defeated Alverno 18-10 and fell to Geneva 10-5. 

Crown jumped out to a 2-0 lead as an Itzel Valles single drove in both Abbey Underdahl and Katie Vaughan. Alverno retook the lead in the bottom half of the first. Both teams traded blows as Vaughan hit a two-run home run for the first time this season. The Polars broke it open in the 4th inning scoring 6 runs and pulled away late in the game with another 6 run inning in the 6th to take the 18-10 victory. 

Vaughan, Valles, and Kaylee Fude all tallied 3 hits in the game. Maria Lilienthal and Vaughan both had 4 RBI's in the game. Abbie Carroll pitched a complete game and allowed 6 earned runs in the contest. 

Game two saw Crown score 5 runs on 6 hits in the 2nd inning to take the 5-0 lead. The Golden Tornadoes tied the game up at 5-5 in the 4th inning. Crown left a total of 6 runners on base over the course of the last five innings of the game and fell by a score of 10-5. 

Kya Oakes went 3-3 at the plate and walked to lead the Polars offense. Emmy Romportl totaled 3 RBI's and 2 hits. Romportl also pitched all seven innings, striking out 4 batters. 

Crown moves to 4-9 on the season and will finish up their Florida Spring Break trip tomorrow March 18th with contests against Alverno and St. Joseph's starting at 8am (CST).
