Tucson, AZ - The Polars baseball team faced off with Carthage and Rockford on Tuesday and fell by scores of 13-4 and 7-5.
Crown fell behind 2-0 early in the first game of the day before the Polars scored four runs to answer. Sacrifice flies from
Charlie Joyce and
Bryan Gerbers with the bases loaded both scored one and hits from Gerbers and
Drew Girtz gave Crown the 4-3 lead at the end on 4 innings. From that point forward Carthage tacked on a number of runs and Crown was unable to push any more across runs as the Polars fell 13-4.
Kyler Thruston,
Louis Garcia, and Gerbers both had multi hit efforts as Gerbers had 2 RBI's. Jackson Phillip pitched 3.1 innings and allowed 2 earned runs striking out 2 batters.
John Brew,
Danny Gallardo,
Aidan Volk-Specht,
Cole Vahovick, and
Michael Escalante all pitched for Crown.
In game two Crown fell behind Rockford 4-0 after the first inning before an
Ashton Long solo home run in the second inning cut the lead to 4-1. The Polars battled and scored 2 runs in the 6th inning and 1 run in the 7th inning to tie the score at 4-4. The bottom of the 7th went in Rockford's favor as the Regents tacked on 3 runs. The Polars cut the lead to 7-5 and with 2 outs and the bases loaded in the top of the 9th
Charlie Joyce lined out to center to end the game as the Polars fell 7-5.
Tyler Olson went 3-4 from the plate to lead the Crown offense and Joyce added two hits. Four Polars took the mound as
Brett Torbeck got the start.
Mitchell Cox pitched 5.1 innings and allowed 2 earned runs.
Ryan Vondracek and
Charlie Joyce both saw the mound.
Crown fall to 3-4 on the season and will next take on both Carthage and Rockford on Thursday, March 13th with the first game starting at 11am (CST).
