Mankato, Minn. - The Polars softball team faced off with Saint Mary's and Gustavus Adolphus and fell by scores of 16-3 and 8-1.
In game one Crown was able to get a runner in scoring position after a leadoff single from
Emmy Romportl in the top of the 1st but were not able to drive in the run. After a big 2nd inning the Cardinals jumped out in front 11-0. After hits from
Itzel Valles and
Maria Lilienthal the Polars scored their first runs of the season off of an
Abbey Underdahl groundout and a single from
Morgan Aylsworth. The Cardinals came out on top 16-3.
In game two the Gusties scored 6 unanswered runs through the first 4 innings of play. Crown left 6 runners on base through the first four innings including leaving the bases loaded in the bottom of the 4th inning. The Polars tacked one run on the scoreboard after a Valles single, but the Polars were unable to pull back within reach and fell 8-1.
Lilienthal, Valles, and Romportl all totaled 3 hits over the two contests.
Morgan Aylsworth and
Sydney Gardner both tabbed a stolen base.
Abbie Carroll pitched 4 innings in the first game and Romportl pitched a complete game allowing only 4 total earned runs across the 7 innings in the circle.
Crown falls to 0-2 on the season and will next take on Augsburg in a doubleheader on the road in Minneapolis on Friday, March 7th starting at 5:30pm.
