St. Bonifacius, Minn. - The Polars Men's Soccer team took on the Royals of Bethel University for the first home contest of the season Saturday and fell 5-2.
After an early foul that was called against the Polars the Royals had a free kick opportunity from about 35 yards out. The ball was sent in and deflected around before finally finding the back of the net for the first goal of the contest. Bethel scored the second goal of the day and controlled possession for a majority of the first half holding a 2-0 lead. The lone shot in the first half for Crown came early from
Marcus Banegas.
The second half started with Crown finding a spark as an early ball sent forward by
Juan Fernando Arriaga found the likes of
Timmy Jackson who sent a blast through the legs of the Bethel goalkeeper for the Polars first goal of the match in the 52nd minute. With the lead trimmed down to 2-1 the Polars found themselves on the wrong end of a few fouls inside the 18 yard box giving Bethel two penalty kicks which were converted upon giving the Royals a 4-1 lead. Jose Lovera earned a penalty kick and took advantage of the opportunity scoring his first goal of the season as Crown fell 5-2.
The Polars fall to 0-3 on the season and will next head up north for the UMAC opener at Northland College on Wednesday, September 18th for a 4:30pm match with the Lumberjacks.
