Minneapolis, Minn. - The Polars men's soccer team took on the Augsburg University Auggies on Wednesday night and fell by a score of 7-1.
The first half saw the Auggies maintain possession for the majority of play. Crown found a couple of opportunities to fire shots on goal, but opportunities were limited with the intense play of Augsburg. The Polars goalkeeper Leo Roque snatched 11 saves in the half. Right before the first 45 minutes were up Crown was awarded a free kick around midfield and Serni Batalla blasted a ball in goal finding the top shelf with spectacular power and placement to take the 1-0 lead at half.
The second half was all Auggies from there as Crown struggled to get much going. The Auggies out shot the Polars 18-1 in the second half after the Polars had to play with a man down after a red card on Joaquin Silva. The scoring came quickly for Augsburg late as the final score read 7-1 in favor of Augsburg.
Batalla scored his first goal of the season and his 5th career goal. Leo Roque racked up 12 saves in 77 minutes of play. Goalkeeper Will Parcher saw his first action of the season.
The Polars fall to 0-2 on the season and will look for their first win at home this Saturday, September 14th with a non-conference bout against Bethel (MN) at home at 1pm.
