St. Bonifacius, Minn. - A new season for Polars volleyball was kicked off Friday night with a 3-0 win over Kuyper College.
Crown started out the first set with a slight 8-4 edge with
Jocelynn Shockley earning two early kills for the Polars. The lead in set one did not stop there for the Polars as a seven point run found the Polars sitting on a 15-6 lead. Crown coasted the rest of the way in the first set as Crown finished ahead 25-13.
A balanced offensive effort saw Crown jump out in front once again in the second set as five different Polars earned kills in the 11-4 lead. With a sizeable lead and a 14-4 run to close out the second set Crown took the set 25-8.Â
With the 2-0 set lead the Polars sent a number of subs into the contest as 12 total Polars saw the floor Friday night. Kuyper battled in the third set and held the Polars at bay early as the Cougars held a slim 10-9 lead. From there on the Polars found their offense scoring fifteen points and taking home a 3 set sweep in the third set 25-15.
Shockley,
Emma Bottelberghe, and
Taylor Schafer led Crown in kills with 5 from both Shockley and Bottleberghe and 4 from Schafer.
Shaelyn McNeill tallied 5 aces and
Brooke Rummel added 4 of her own.
Ellie Fuller dominated the defensive end totaling 18 digs in the three set contest.
The Polars start the year 1-0 and will look to keep the hot start rolling tomorrow, Saturday August 31st back at home. The Crown women take on Emmaus Bible College at 11am and have their first home conference match with North Central at 3pm.
