St. Bonifacius, MN - The Polars baseball team faced off with UW-Superior on Saturday and split the doubleheader as they won 10-8 and lost 14-2.
Game one started with a leadoff home run from
Mason Brock. UW-Superior answered back with four runs of their own in the top half of the second inning. Just an inning later Crown hit two home runs as
Ashton Long hit a two run blast and so did
Tyler Bloom to tie up the score at 4-4. One more home run from UW-Superior and one from
Ethan Habetler evened it back up at 5-5.
After a three run push from the Yellowjackets the Polars chipped away at the score as they knocked in two runs on a
Matthew Shaugabay double. In the bottom of the 9th a Habetler single scored the tying run. Then with one runner on
Bryan Gerbers hit a pinch hit walk off two run home run to left center field and the Polars took game one 10-8.
Howie Hatton,
Tyler Bloom, and Habetler all totaled three hits in the game.
Aidan Volk-Specht pitched 6 innings,
Jacob Van Dam pitched 2 and then Drew Gitrz earned the win with 2 innings of shutout pitching and 5 strikeouts.
Game two was a different story as the Yellowjackets jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. Crown earned 1 run right back after a
Drew Girtz single in the 4th inning. It was almost all UW-Superior from there as they pushed across 12 more runs on route to the 14-2 win. Four different pitchers took the rubber for the Polars.
Crown moves to 5-11 on the season and 3-2 in UMAC play and will play a nonconference contest on the road at St. Olaf on Wednesday, April 10th at 3pm.
