St. Peter, MN - The Polars Baseball team faced off with Gustavus Adolphus College on Wednesday and fell by a score of 9-7.
Crown jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after a
Tyler Bloom single driving in
Howie Hatton and
Mason Brock. The Gusties took the lead right back in the bottom half of the second inning after a quiet top half. A Hatton home run and an
Ashton Long triple gave the Polars the 4-3 lead. Crwon kept the scoring going in the 4th inning and added on to extend the lead to 6-3.
Gustavus found some offense in the next three innings and the lead changed for the 4th time in the 7th inning when an RBI single gave the lead back to Gustavus 7-6. With two outs in the 8th inning an error, single, and a stolen base evened the score at 7-7. The Gusties ended up being the team with more runs on the scoreboard as the final score read 9-7.
Hatton went 3-3 and added 2 RBI's as he led the Crown offense. Bloom had a multi-hit performance as well. Seven pitchers saw the mound for the Polars as the pitch by committee approach saw six of the seven pitchers throw 1 inning or less.
Payton Clevenger had the longest time spent on the mound as he pitched 3 innings and gave up 1 earned run.
The Polars fall to 12-16 on the season and will next head to Martin Luther tomorrow for the first of their three game series with first pitch set for 3pm.
