Ashland, WI - The Polars baseball team defeated the Northland College Lumberjacks on Sunday with a 5-3 victory.
After two scoreless innings Crown stranded two runners on base in the top half of the third inning. The next inning Crown opened up the ball game after two walks, the Polars had
Matthew Shaugabay single,
Ethan Habetler single, and
Tyler Olson single to take a 3-0 lead. Two out base knocks from
Mason Brock and
Howie Hatton pushed the lead to 5-0.
Jacob Van Dam pitched a solid outing as he was pulled out after 5.2 innings only allowing 3 hits and 1 earned run. The Lumberjacks threatened with one run in the 6th, and two in the 8th to cut the lead to 5-3.
Jefferson Barmoy came in and earned the save after striking out 1 batter and Crown took the victory.
Mitchell Cox and
Aidan Volk-Specht both toed the slab in the game.Â
Brock led the Crown offense with 3 hits in 5 at bats totaling 2 RBI's. Shaugabay, Habetler, and Olson all notched multiple hits in the game.Â
Crown moves to 11-15 on the season and 9-5 in UMAC play. The Polars sit 4th overall in conference play and will look to secure a UMAC playoff spot with just 7 UMAC games remaining. The next contest will be Tuesday, April 23rd on the road at UM-Morris for game three of their season series with the Cougars with first pitch at 2pm.
