Morris, MN - The Polars baseball team faced off with the Minnesota Morris Cougars on Monday and came out on top by scores of 17-3 and 18-8.
From the first at bat in game one the Polars bats were red hot.
Mason Brock blasted a leadoff home run and then doubles from
Howie Hatton,
Ashton Long, and
Tyler Bloom gave Crown the 3-0 lead after 1 inning. Brock's second at bat brought the same result with his second home run and Crown pushed ahead 5-0. The Polars opened up the scoring with a 12 run 3rd inning. Hatton homered twice as the Polars batted around.
Drew Girtz homered,
Matthew Shaugabay homered, and
Ethan Habetler homered all in the same inning.Â
A three run home run from the Cougars cut the lead to 17-3 as the scoring stopped there and Crown came out on top after 7 innings of of play. Hatton went 4-5 and totaled 5 runs batted in.
Tyler Olson, Bloom, and Brock all earned 3 hits in the contest.
Tristan Camp pitched 3 innings and earned a win.

Brett Torbeck each pitched one inning a piece and allowed 0 earned runs.Â
Another high scoring first few innings for Crown in game two started with an
Ashton Long two run home run. A three run double from Olson and the Polars held the 5-0 lead after the first inning.
Bryan Gerbers hit a solo home run and Olson drove in two runs on a single in the top half of the 2nd inning to give Crown the 8-0 lead.
Jacob Van Dam started on the mound and did not give up a hit through 4 innings. After another Gerbers home run the Cougars answered knocking in a combined 8 runs in the 5th and 6th innings to cut the Polars lead to just 12-8.Â
A
Mason Brock grand slam in the 7th inning propelled Crown to the 18-8 victory after 8 innings of play. Girtz went 4-5 leading the Polars offense. Olson, Gerbers and Ethan Habelter all earned 3 hit efforts. Olson and Brock both tallied 5 RBI's in game two. Van Dam earned the win after 5 innings pitched.
Danny Gallardo and
Quentin Holmes toed the rubber to close out the contest.
A combined 35 runs and 11 home runs between the two contests propelled Crown to earn the two wins. The Polars move to 8-15 overall and 6-5 in UMAC play as they move up to 4th place in conference play. Crown will next head to Gustavus Adolphus for a non-conference doubleheader this Thursday, April 19th starting at 2:30pm.
