Softball Totals 32 Runs in Doubleheader Sweep of Rams

St. Bonifacius, MN – The Polars Softball team defeated the North Central University Rams in doubleheader action on Saturday as they took home wins by scores of 15-8 and 17-6.
 
The Crown offense exploded early on in game one as 5 hits pushed across 5 runs after an RBI single from Abbey Underdahl, RBI double from Kaylee Fude, and an RBI single from Abbie Carroll. After the Rams scored one run the Polars scored 4 more runs in the bottom half of the second inning to take the 9-1 lead. A big 4th inning was led by a three-run home run from Kylei Abreo, her first career home run. The Rams battled to get within six runs, but Crown was able to take down North Central in game one 15-8.
 
Kaylee Fude led the Crown offense going 3-3 with 5 RBI's. Seven different Polars earned multi-hit efforts in the contest. Emmy Romportl earned her 2nd win of the season as she pitched a complete game allowing just 5 earned runs and striking out 5 batters.
 
Game two saw the Rams jump out in front early as they pushed across 4 runs in the top half of the 1st inning. Crown then scored 10 unanswered runs. A double from Sydney Gardner drove in two runs in the first inning, then a dropped third strike allowed Gardner to score. RBI Singles from Maliya Martinez and Katie Vaughan gave Crown the 6-4 lead after two innings. A monster 3rd inning saw 5 hits and 5 runs for Crown as the Polars took the 11-4 lead. A two-run home run from the Rams cut the score to 11-6. Seven hits and 6 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning gave Crown the 17-6 lead and the victory after 5 innings of play.
 
Abbie Carroll earned the win in the contest after 4 innings pitched. Emmy Romportl came in and struck out three batters to finish out the contest. Vaughn had a career day at the plate with 4 hits in 4 at bats with 3 RBIs. Fude and Martinez both added three hit efforts and combined for 4 RBIs.
 
The Polars move to 5-14 on the season and 3-0 in UMAC play following the series sweep of North Central. Crown will next head up north to play a three game series with UW-Superior starting on Friday, April 5th at 3pm and a doubleheader on Saturday, April 6th at 11am and 1pm.
