St. Bonifacius, MN – The Polars Softball team faced off with the Rams of North Central on Friday in the first game of a three-game series and won 4-3.
The Rams scored the first run of the game in the top half of the 1
st after an error. Crown answered right back scoring two of their own runs after hits from
Kaylee Fude,
Katie Vaughan,
Sydney Gardner, and
Abbey Underdahl. The 2-1 lead was stretched to 3-1 after a double from Underdahl that drove in Vaughan.
North Central pushed two runs across in the top of the 5
th inning to tie the score at 3-3. Catelynn Garza took a 5 pitch walk in the bottom of the 6
th inning and reached second with one out. With two outs in the inning
Abbie Carroll singled to left field to score the game winning run. A one, two, three inning from Carroll on the mound in the top of the 7
th sealed the 4-3 win.
Carroll pitched her 6
th complete game of the year and earned the win in the pitchers circle as she struck out 9 batters.
Katie Vaughan led the Polars offense as she went 3-3 at the plate. Underdahl and Carroll both notched 2 hits each.
The Polars move to 1-0 in UMAC play and will return to Old National Bank Stadium tomorrow facing off with the Rams in a doubleheader with first pitch set for 1pm.
