Hatton and Long Hit Home Runs, Polars Take Down Rams in Doubleheader Sweep

Mauston, WI – The Polars baseball team took on the North Central Rams on Saturday in a doubleheader and won both contests by scores of 8-1 and 8-2.
 
Crown got out in front early as a two out rally saw Howie Hatton single, Rhys Dewick walk, Tyler Bloom single, then a walk from Matthew Shaugabay scored the first run of the ball game. Neither team could push across any runs until the top of the 5th inning when singles from Mason Brock and Rhys Dewick drove in two runs to take the 3-0 lead.
 
Tristan Camp started on the mound and was taken out of the game after 5.2 innings allowing only 1 earned run on 5 hits. The Polars scored 5 runs in the final three innings as Ashton Long homered in the 8th to drive in 3 runs and Howie Hatton totaled 2 RBIs after an RBI single in the 7th and a home run in the 9th to take the 8-1 win.
 
Hatton led the offense in game one as he went 3-5 with 2 RBI's. Tyler Bloom and Tristen Ciarlo both had two hits in game 1. Tristan Camp earned the win after 5.2 innings pitched and 9 strikeouts. Ryan Vondracek and Jacob Van Dam combined for 3.1 innings of no hit baseball to finish the contest.
 
Game two saw Tyler Bloom drive in two runs to take the 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning. North Central grabbed one back in the 3rd inning. The Polars opened the game up scoring 5 unanswered runs and took home an 8-2 lead after ten hits in the final four innings.
 
Rhys Dewick had a monster game with 4 hits in 5 at bats. Ashton Long, Ethan Habetler, and Tristen Ciarlo all added multi-hit efforts. Aidan Volk-Specht earned his first win after 4 innings pitched allowing only 3 hits and 1 earned run. Jefferson Barmoy, Quentin Holmes, and Drew Girtz closed the door to get the win.
 
The Polars move to 2-0 in UMAC play and 4-9 overall as they will head to Minnesota Morris on Wednesday, April 3rd if weather permits for a rescheduled doubleheader.
