Mauston, WI – The Polars baseball team took on the North Central Rams on Saturday in a doubleheader and won both contests by scores of 8-1 and 8-2.
Crown got out in front early as a two out rally saw
Howie Hatton single,
Rhys Dewick walk,
Tyler Bloom single, then a walk from
Matthew Shaugabay scored the first run of the ball game. Neither team could push across any runs until the top of the 5
th inning when singles from
Mason Brock and
Rhys Dewick drove in two runs to take the 3-0 lead.
Tristan Camp started on the mound and was taken out of the game after 5.2 innings allowing only 1 earned run on 5 hits. The Polars scored 5 runs in the final three innings as
Ashton Long homered in the 8
th to drive in 3 runs and
Howie Hatton totaled 2 RBIs after an RBI single in the 7
th and a home run in the 9
th to take the 8-1 win.
Hatton led the offense in game one as he went 3-5 with 2 RBI's.
Tyler Bloom and
Tristen Ciarlo both had two hits in game 1.
Tristan Camp earned the win after 5.2 innings pitched and 9 strikeouts.
Ryan Vondracek and
Jacob Van Dam combined for 3.1 innings of no hit baseball to finish the contest.
Game two saw
Tyler Bloom drive in two runs to take the 2-0 lead in the top of the 1
st inning. North Central grabbed one back in the 3rd inning. The Polars opened the game up scoring 5 unanswered runs and took home an 8-2 lead after ten hits in the final four innings.
Rhys Dewick had a monster game with 4 hits in 5 at bats.
Ashton Long,
Ethan Habetler, and
Tristen Ciarlo all added multi-hit efforts.
Aidan Volk-Specht earned his first win after 4 innings pitched allowing only 3 hits and 1 earned run.
Jefferson Barmoy,
Quentin Holmes, and
Drew Girtz closed the door to get the win.
The Polars move to 2-0 in UMAC play and 4-9 overall as they will head to Minnesota Morris on Wednesday, April 3
rd if weather permits for a rescheduled doubleheader.
